Stories of Hope / Recovery
As noted in the "Lyme Patient Stories" section : Lyme patients "are not just statistics, but real people, with a real illness, whose lives have been turned upside down, not only by an illness, but also by having to fight for what most people take for granted; compassionate and accurate health care".
The Lyme journey is a tough one, physically and emotionally, and at times can seem insurmountable. Due to the lack of acknowledgement of the existence of Lyme in particular countries, and the controversies surrounding chronic Lyme, many people are deemed as "psychiatric" patients by their doctors, family and friends, who prefer to believe the government rhetoric, rather than listen to their loved ones. Whilst some patients lose their entire support networks, thankfully many people have family and friends that do stand by and support them, and for those that do need to connect with others in the same situation, there are also many Lyme support groups for treatment information as well as emotional support. As the recovery from chronic Lyme is a long road, one thing that constantly gets asked in these support groups, is for stories of successful treatment, to provide strength to continue and hope for the recovery of a life without pain and illness.
That is what this section, "Stories of Hope/Recovery" is about. Giving hope to those that need to know there is indeed life after Lyme. Taking this into account that, please understand that many of the stories in this section will be full of hard times and suffering (though with a good happy ending), as for those that are looking for encouragement in their own treatment pathways, they need to understand the real depths of the illness that others have been able to recover from.

Please note: This section has only been added to the website mid 2014. I am working through treatment and updating a couple of websites (including this one) I am also in the process of contacting the people that I am aware have had significant improvements to share their stories, including what the top three things they felt as helped their recovery the most. I will share the stories as they come in. Regards, Karen.
