Lyme Stories Around Australia
Lyme Stories around Australia is a collection of stories of people living with Lyme Disease In Australia. This section aims to show the "human faces" of Lyme disease. We are not just statistics, but real people, with a real illness, whose lives have been turned upside down, not only by an illness, but also by having to fight for what most people take for granted; Compassionate and accurate health care.
The journeys shared are of people living in Australia, some have travelled internationally, others have not. The one thing that everyone has in common is; whether internationally or locally acquired, the Government makes no allowances for research and educating doctors, and there is no hospital or public treatment for people suffering with Lyme disease in Australia. Indeed, people have been refused treatment by their general practitioners and been turned away at hospitals for mentioning that they have tested positive for Lyme disease. This situation has to change!!
This section is a work in progress and stories will be added to the site as people share them and time permits.
Edit: With my other commitments growing I was only able to get half a dozen stories up in 2013. (As well as my own continued treatment, recovery and the research on Australia's vectors and reservoir hosts, I have taken on another couple of large Awareness projects this year - The Inaugural Worldwide Lyme Awareness Protest, and the website for it, as well a third website project I will reveal by mid January 2014 ... yes building the suspense there :-)
I am pleased to announce that Sarah has now come on board to help with this section of the website ; and look forward to seeing the patient stories and awareness grow. A note on this one also - Sarah has had a setback in health and needs to focus on herself for the time being. In the meantime, a couple of other offers of help have come in, and hopefully this section will go ahead in the next couple of weeks. Regards Karen.
